Vytamyx MBS is a scientifically formulated synbiotic designed to support a balanced gut microbiome as the foundation of overall health and wellbeing in horses.
The equine digestive system relies heavily on microbial fermentation within the hindgut to convert fibre into usable energy and nutrients. Modern management — changes in diet, pasture quality, workload, travel and environment — can all influence microbiome stability. Even small shifts in microbial balance can impact digestive efficiency and overall consistency.
MBS combines targeted probiotic strains with complementary prebiotic substrates, supported by humates and fucoidan-rich kelp, to help maintain a stable gut environment and microbial diversity. A balanced microbiome supports metabolic function, behavioural balance, skin condition and overall resilience — providing a practical, consistent approach to whole-horse wellbeing.

The Science
Humates, including fulvic and humic acids, and fucoidan-rich marine polysaccharides represent a complementary approach to microbiome support when combined with targeted probiotic strains such as Bacillus subtilis.
Humates contribute to gut environment stability, supporting nutrient interaction and helping maintain conditions that favour beneficial microbial activity. Fulvic acid, in particular, is associated with enhancing mineral transport and supporting the interaction between nutrients and the gut lining.
Fucoidans, derived from brown seaweeds such as Ascophyllum nodosum, provide complex sulphated polysaccharides that act as functional substrates within the gut, supporting microbial diversity and the activity of beneficial populations.
Combined with Bacillus subtilis — a resilient spore-forming probiotic capable of surviving gastric conditions and colonising the hindgut — this creates a synergistic system: the probiotic contributes to microbial balance and enzymatic activity, while humates and fucoidans provide a supportive environment and substrate base. Together this supports the stability, diversity and efficiency of the microbiome, underpinning digestion, nutrient utilisation and overall physiological balance in the horse.
